She needs a Superhero, where are you dad?

All around your daughter are images of boys and men sometimes being positive role models for her and other times leaving a lot to be desired.

My daughter will be 14 in a few days and thinking back over the years I have jotted down just a few of the notorious males that come to mind off the top of my head;

  • Prince Charming
  • Shrek
  • Salespersons
  • Grandpa
  • Television personalities
  • Male Teachers
  • Uncles, cousins and other extended family
  • Camp directors
  • Orthodontist, Dentist, Physician, counselors and other professionals
  • Justin Bieber, President Barack Obama, Adam Levine and other performers
  • Baristas
  • Tennis instructors
  • Her friend’s brothers and dads
  • Teachers
  • Boys at school
  • Church youth leaders
  • Mom’s boyfriend
  • And the list goes on…

Now some of these men are of impeccable character, while others do not always demonstrate the values and morals I want to instill in my  daughter.  This is why she needs one hero to stand above all other men in her life.  Her father!  For the sake of this post I’m defining a hero as ‘a man, who is admired or idealized for courage, outstanding achievements, upstanding character and/or his noble qualities.’  Her father should play this role and strive daily to stand above all other men in her life.

If you are her hero, that one who stands above all others providing her with a shining example of courage, character, nobility and more congratulations.  Keep up the great work.  She needs you in her life!

If you’re not feeling like a hero at this time don’t start discounting yourself or thinking that you are far from being her hero because you already are a Superhero.  Daughters are born with a worship like admiration for their fathers as we are the strength, protection and guiding light they need in their life.  Being a hero is easier than not and you are the only one that can get in the way of not being her Superhero.

Take this opportunity to check in and ask yourself if you are giving this relationship the effort it deserves.  She wants you and you are capable of being everything she needs.  No matter where you are or how rough the road has been you can start today.

Every change occurs in an instant with a decision to act.

This is your time to move forward and be the hero she deserves.
